If you're in NYC you can catch THE TRISTAN QUARTET at Sushi Taro restaurant (26th between 7th and 6th Ave) the first Friday of every month.
The quartet is:
Bob Arthurs - trumpet
Dave Frank - tenor
Jon Easton - piano
Joe Solomon - bass
Joe studied and played with Lennie, as well as Sal Mosca. The other guys have studied with Sal Mosca.
And Sal has fallen by at least once to sit in.

I think it’s safe to say that his endorsement of the Tristano School, as an important young African-American jazz musician, paved the way for others, black and white, to seek out the same. Lennie's recordings from the early 50's sound SO modern it's unbelievable....his lines and shapes sound like they could have been written today. Those recordings of Warne Marsh and Ted Brown could just as easily be Mark Turner and Chris Cheek..ultra-modern playing and composing that gets totally overlooked by most of today's jazz "audience".
