During the last Tristano marathon I heard two songs from this Christmas concert. The one song, "You Go To My Head" I have on a cd entitled Lennie Tristano: trio, Quartet, Quintet & Sextet (Giants of Jazz). I forget the name of the second song, but it contains an incredible solo by Lee Konitz that I just can't get out of my head. Does anyone know the name of the song and whether it's available anywhere? And whether any more songs from this amazing concert were recorded? It's my favorite Christmas album. I like it better even than Elvis Presley.

It's 'Sax of a Kind' - a line credited to both Konitz and Marsh. The original studio recording is on Capitol.

When I have a chance I'll look up what cd it is on. The whole recording of concert I believe is on the cd, there are only those 2 tracks from LT and the crew.
The rest of the concert features the likes of Bud Powell trio, Miles Davis, Sonnny Stitt, Kai Winging, Stan Getz, Sarah Vaughn, Bird etc

I'll come back with a bit more info if I can find it.

Hi Adam,

Sonotheque de la Maison de la Jazz lists JCD 016 as the third CD of the Parker collection. But I can't tell whether Sonotheque is a museum/library or a merchant. Maybe you can. I emailed them for more info at <www.maisondujazz.be/fr/tresors/sons/audioT2.htm> Marv

Hi, you can find all the tracks in the 4 cd box "Intuition", except for Progression, that's hard to find (in many recordings it's a wrong title for Tautology. You can find it on Lee Konitz – Subconscious-Lee (Fantasy OJC 186, OJCCD 186 2), only on the cd version.

Yes, Dr. Jellyfish, I found it. The box set has both "You Go To My Head" and "Sax Of A Kind." But I want the whole fucking evening! I want to hear where everyone was (Miles, Bird, Getz, Lennie etc) when American culture popped its cherry at Carnegie Hall on Christmas Eve in '49 before it crashed.

Eunmi Shim says the Carnegie Hall concert took place on Christmas day, the 25th of December, 1949, not on Christmas eve. That makes sense. Imagine having spent Christmas eve with kith and kin (I can hear the radiator popping), then having happily trudged through the snow to Carnegie Hall on Christmas day to enjoy a concert like that! What a great city!

the whole fucking evening ...
